Xtreme Contracting's 2012 Playoff Run was almost perfect!
In a tough division with Bradley and the Falcons, Xtreme showed up on Saturday morning "on a mission". A 21-4 victory over Bradley gave Xtreme the +7 differential to even up with the Falcons in the Pool C standings at 1-0, and meant a Win or Tie at Noon would put the Defending Champs through to Sunday. 12:00pm came and Xtreme did not disappoint their fans playing a solid game (and benefitting from a few Falcons errors) en route to a 16-5 victory. Xtreme then had the opportunity to kick back, have some pizza and pops, and watch the remaining afternoon games, while waiting to see who they would meet in the Quarterfinals on Sunday.
Surprise Surprise... It was a rematch with the Falcons at 11:30am on K2. Xtreme knew this would not be an easy game, having beaten the Falcons in the last 2 playoff meetings (including the 2011 Championship Game). Falcons came out hard and built up a 7-3 lead until a bases loaded walk, a Wilcox grand slam, and a Ballantyne 2-run shot all in the bottom of the 6th inning led to a 10-7 Xtreme lead. The Falcons failed to score in the top of 7, and Xtreme was off to the Semi's.
The Semi's featured a clash with Signage Source Storm and Xtreme was definitely up for the test. The offense came out like wildfire and built up a 17-2 lead within the first couple of innings. A lead which would not be relinquished, a 19-7 final sent the defending Playoff Champs back to the Show!
Xtreme was pleasantly surprised to hear that Hanet Plastics defeated the Devils in the other semi-final and a 9-inning Final Game was about to decide the 2012 Playoff Championship. Unfortunately, Xtreme came out flat and trailed 6-0 before cashing their first run, only to give it back in the next inning for a 7-1 Hanet lead after 7 1/2 innings. The bottom of the 8th looked promising, and Xtreme cashed 5 runs to get within one of the lead, however, that was as close as they would get in this one, no bottom of the 9th comeback, and no Playoff Champion repeat.
The team wishes to thank its fans for their support during the season and what was another great playoff run. Thanks to Mace for his sponsorship once again this year.
And Congratulations is extended to Hanet Plastics for the victory and capturing their first ever WMSPL Playoff Championship!
