The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!

The Good:
Xtreme took its' 2-0 season record into the WMSPL Tourney on Friday night as they opened up against the Falcons.  Xtreme played a solid game both offensively and defensively, scoring in 5 of their 6 innings at-bat en route to a 16-3 victory.  The post-game festivities may have ran a little bit longer than normal on this evening and it showed on Saturday morning, as a tired Xtreme group arrived for a 10:30am game against the Devils.  This one was a pitcher's battle throughout as neither team could muster a run prior to the 5th inning when the Devils scored and took a 1-0 lead.  Xtreme answered in the 6th to even the score at 1-1.  Neither team could capitalize on their last at-bats in the 7th inning, and in 52 minutes, this one ended in a 1-1 draw.  Saturday afternoon saw Xtreme face Greenthumb in the third and final game of the Round Robin.  Xtreme scored early and often in this one, however the 1 extra run against cost Xtreme 1st place in the pool and resulted in a 5:00pm semi-final date with Direct/Bradley.  The semi-final was another defensive battle and Xtreme had to play come from behind but managed to take this game into an 8th inning where they scored 1-run for a 7-6 lead and then shut down the opposition for the victory, setting up a Championship Final against the Storm.  The Final saw Storm jump out to an early lead while Xtreme chipped away and eventually sat tied 8-8 at the end of 4 innings.  Xtreme's defense shut down the Storm in the top of 5, and then the bats came alive in the home half of the inning as 13 runs crossed the plate giving Xtreme what was an insurmountable lead on this evening.  Make the Championship Final 23-12 for Xtreme!  With the victory, Xtreme Contracting captured the first jewel in its 2014 quest for the Triple Crown.

The Bad:
As could be somewhat expected following 5 games in less than 48 hours, Xtreme showed up on Sunday for a League contest against the Storm and despite playing a very poor game (cashing a grand total of 9 runs), they walked away with their first defeat of the season by a final score of 14-9.

The Ugly:
Xtreme had to return to Kelloryn Park yet again on Monday night to face the 2013 WMSPL Playoff Champion A's, and it was a comedy of errors in the first two innings, combined with some solid sticking from the guys in green that led to a disappointing second straight loss for Xtreme (23-15).  With the loss, Xtreme falls to 2-2 on the season.  Up next is a Friday night 8:00pm game versus Coulas Bone Crushers.  Tickets are still available (or just show up and bring the boys some cold Canadian for your Free Admission)!
